Welcome to the Bribie Island Bicycle User Group website!

The Bribie Island Bicycle User Group (Bribie BUG) was formed to provide an outlet for locals to get together, have a good time, promote fitness and discover new places on Bribie Island and surrounding areas and now has about 120 members!  Bribie Island is the perfect place to cycle!  It has beautiful beaches and the ideal subtropical climate.  We also aim to address issues that need to be fixed in the community such as infrastructure, cycle awareness and improvement to cycle paths.

PLEASE NOTE:  The Contact Us link below is currently out of order and any message you send us by this means will not reach us.  If you wish to contact Bribie BUG, please send an email to bribiebug@yahoo.com.au.

We regret that Bribie BUG's annual Ride Bribie Island event which aims to get more riders riding more often, and especially on Bribie Island, has been suspended indefinitely.  We have left information about Ride Bribie Island 2022 below to give you an idea of what is normally on offer.  We hope to be able to reinstate Ride Bribie Island at some point in the future.

Do you or your bike need more exercise?

Bribie BUG has rides every Saturday morning.  Rides leave at 7:00 am, 7:30 am and 8:00 am from the Information Centre,  Benabrow Avenue, Bellara for rides to Banksia Beach or Woorim and from the 7Eleven sign at the car park next to the traffic lights (Cnr Bribie Island Road and Spinnaker Drive)  for rides to Sandstone Lakes.  If you live on the island, give yourself about 15 minutes extra to walk or drive over the bridge.

The 7:30 am Saturday ride is usually a "Roads Less Travelled" ride and may include some off-road riding.  Contact Joyce on 0439 329 334 for more details.

Most of our rides take 2 to 3 hours (including coffee) and cover about 20-25km at a moderate pace to suit those participating.  All cyclists welcome.  Contact Isabel Cooper on 07 5496 8661 or 0419 776 393 or just turn up at the designated start point (Information Centre or 7Eleven sign) 5-10 minutes before ride time.

On Monday morning our 'Monday Rides' around Bribie  leave at 7:00 am, 7:30 am and 8:00 am from the Information Centre, 20 mins later at Bribie Bridge, 30 mins later at Bribie Jetty and continue to coffee at Woorim.

We also have an Early Birds ride on Wednesday mornings leaving the Information Centre at 6:30 am in winter (April to August) and 6:00 am in summer (September to March).  This 20km social ride takes about an hour through the bush, beach, and streets of Banksia Beach with the option of coffee or the Laughing Group afterwards.  We generally break into two groups, one at about 20km/h and a slower, and bit shorter, ride at about 15 km/h.  Contact Joyce on 0439 329 334.

Two different Thursday Rides: an early 40km Ride and a Leisurely Social Ride at 9:00 am.

The start time for the 40km ride varies from 6:30 am to 7:00 am depending on the day.  It follows roads around Bribie Island at a speed of 25km/h with coffee at the RSL afterwards.  The ride may start earlier if a special destination is chosen.  Participants get in touch with each other by phone and message the day before.  For more information contact Isabel Cooper on 07 5496 8661 or 0419 776 393.

The "Leisurely Social" 75 minute ride is a ride averaging 15km/h for those who prefer to take it easy or who want to try out riding in a group.  This ride starts from the picnic area on Solander Esplanade at the end of Sunderland Drive and finishes at the Community Arts Centre on Sunderland Drive with coffee at Cafe 191 afterwards.

We also often have other rides and social activities on and off the Island, which are published through our free email mailing list, or you can view these away rides in RIDE LIST under the HOME page at the top bar menuContact Isabel Cooper on 07 5496 8661 or 0419 776 393 or send an email to bribiebug@yahoo.com.au if you are keen to join in any of these!

If you intend to join a ride away from Bribie Island (red highlight on our RIDE LIST), please contact the ride leader.

Please send an email to bribiebug@yahoo.com.au if you would like to be added to our mailing list.

We look forward to seeing you on a ride!
